A data engineer designs, constructs, installs,tests, and maintains highly scalable datamanagement systems. They are responsiblefor building the infrastructure that allows forthe generation, collection, and analysis of largedatasets. Key responsibilities includedeveloping, constructing, testing, andmaintaining architecture such as databasesand large-scale processing systems, ensuringthat architectures support data analytics, andpreparing data for prescriptive and predictivemodeling. Data engineers also develop dataset processes for data modeling, mining, andproduction, integrate new data managementtechnologies and software engineering toolsinto existing structures, and collaborate withdata scientists and analysts to ensure dataaccuracy and accessibility. They play a criticalrole in enabling the data-driven decision-making process by ensuring that data pipelinesare robust, efficient, and scalable.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Part of a cross-disciplinary team, working closely with other data engineers,software engineers, data scientists, datamanagers and business partners.
- Implements and maintains reliable andscalable data infrastructure to move,process and serve data.
- Writes, deploys and maintains software tobuild, integrate, manage, and maintain customer facing use casesWrites, deploys and maintains software tobuild, integrate, manage, maintain, andquality-assure data at bp.
- Adheres to and advocates for software engineering best practices (e.g. technicals esign, technical design revievw, unittesting, monitoring & alerting, checking incode, code review, documentation), codereuse).
- Adheres to and advocates for dataengineering best practices (e.g. datamodeling, pipeline idempotency,operational observability)
- Responsible for deploying secure and well-tested software and data-assets that meetprivacy and compliance requirements;develops, maintains and improves Cl/ CDpipeline,
- Responsible for service reliability andfollowing site-reliability engineering bestpractices: on-call rotations for servicesthey maintain, responsible for defining andmaintaining SLAs. Help design, build,deploy and maintain infrastructure ascode.
- Containerizes server deployments.Actively contributes to improvingdeveloper velocity.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Hands on experience Palantir Foundrydevelopment including good exposure tothe ontology framework, and experiencedeveloping applications which extend thecapabilities of the foundry platform
- Hands-on experience designing, planning,building, productionizing, maintaining anddocumenting reliable and scalable datainfrastructure and data products incomplex environments
- Hands on experience in at least oneprogramming language (C#, Python, orTypeScript, JavaScript, React Native)developing cross-platform solutions.
- Hands on experience with Foundryincluding ontology delivery, dataintegration, secure data handling,pipelinebuilding using pipeline builder and coderepository (PySpark), Workshop Design
- Hands-on experience in data engineeringand data pipelinesExperience with SQL and noSQL databasefundamentals, query structures and designbest practices, including scalability,readability, and reliability
