The Analyst, Data Science role sits within theModel Risk Management Group (MRMG)under the Global Risk and Compliance organization. The role supports theindependent risk management and governance of Generative Al and advanced Machine Learning models across American Express.This role focuses on the assessment and monitoring of LLMs, GenAl applications, and ML-based models used in areas such asmarketing, credit, fraud, customerengagement, operations, and risk decisioning.The analyst will contribute to strengthening enterprise model risk controls, elevating model excellence, and supporting compliance with evolving regulatory and governance expectations for Al systems.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support independent oversight andeffective challenge of Generative Al,LLM-based, and advanced ML modelsacross the enterprise.
- Participate in risk based GenAl modelrisk reviews, including assessment of:
- Model objectives, design, andarchitecture
- Training data, prompt design, andassumptions
- Model performance, monitoring approaches, and control mechanismso Risks related to bias, explainability,robustness, and misuseo Execute model risk testing,documentation reviews, and evidence assessment in line with MRMG standards.
- Contribute to gap assessments againstinternal policies and externalregulatory expectations for Al/MLmodels.
- Conduct Al/ML and GenAl research tosupport MRMG guidance, standards,and validation approaches.
- Prepare clear, well-structured analysis,validation notes, and risk summaries for internal stakeholders.
- Communicate analytical findingseffectively to business partners, model committees, and senior leaders, with guidance from managers.
- Collaborate with cross-functionalteams including data science,engineering, product, and risk partners to support validation execution.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- MBA or Master’s Degree in Statistics,Economics, Data Science, Al/ML,Generative Al or related quantitativefields from a top-tier institute.
- 0-2 years of experience in analytics,data science, model development,validation, or big-data workstreams.
- Exposure to Al/ML modeldevelopment, testing, or validationthrough professional experience,projects, or internships preferred.
- Interest in or early exposure toGenerative Al or LLM-based systems isa strong plus.
- Foundational understanding of Al/MLconcepts, with interest in GenerativeAl technologies.
- Hands-on experience with at least oneof Python, PySpark, R, or SQL.
